NGC 5128 is well known radio emitting peculiar galaxy in the sky and it is actually the nearest giant elliptical galaxy to our Milky Way at a distance of about 12 million light-years.

The galaxy most likely undergone a recent merger event, which left a prominent dust lane in the center of the galaxy, but also some neutral cool gas orbiting in the halo at larger distances from the galaxy center.
